I have six-year-old nephew back in the States. He’s a pretty cool kid...very, very wise....much wiser than the rest of us sometimes. A few weeks ago, my brother-in-law sent the following story to me. It hit me pretty hard, so I thought I’d share it:
“We are sitting at the kitchen table eating Guiseppes spaghetti and meatballs when Nathan says, ‘Will we be together when the world ends?’
“I say, ‘What do you mean, when we die?’
“And he says, ‘Yeah, when the sun explodes and burns up the earth.’
“And I say that isn't supposed to happen for at least a billion years.
“And he says, ‘Well, if it happens tomorrow, will we all be together as a family?’
“And I say, ‘I don't know but that would be nice.’ Then I ask him what does he think.
“And he says, ‘Well, I think that our souls will all just find each other up in heaven so we can all be together.’
“....so, a little misty eyed at this point, I ask him what he thinks a "soul" is...and I kid you not, he says, ‘...the soul is the friend of conscience.’
“So I ask him where he heard that, t.v., church, etc?, and he says, ‘No, I just thought of it.’
“So a little skeptical, I ask him what "conscience" is, and he says, ‘It’s that little voice in your head that tells you the right thing to do.’”
God, I love this kid.
